Martin from CRK came to fix the patio door and have a look at the flashing on the front window.Lovely as he is, he obviously isn't a doggy person - it shows you know! He ignored Rodders completely, didn't even speak to him.
Rodders wondered who this strange person was playing with his door to the outside world but, not being very brave, once he was put down on the floor he stayed by my side, venturing forth for a sniff every now and again. I moved away a little and Rodders moved to my foot. As he got more confident he moved to his place of safety, on top of the rolled up carpet. He was happy there until he got braver and moved towards his toys for a little play.
We then moved out the front so Martin could look at the flashing (flashing & stripping in one day? What fun we have in this house!) and Rodders was happy in my arms watching and listening to what was going on. Much movement of ladders and some banging all was done (temporary fix, if it comes away again it will need to be replaced as it isn't good quality lead and should be in three bits and it is one, good old Insulting Windows!) and Martin came in to wash his hands. Rodders went down on the floor but wasn't sure about someone strange in his kitchen so stayed close.
Once Martin left we had some play in the garden with Rodders running after me and barking. He was happy to play for a time on his own so I did a bathroom dash. He had let himself in and was happily chewing.... the rolled up carpet, wish I could say it was one of his toys.
Final tip from Martin - We need some three in one oil for the front door locks & maybe use it twice a year. If you use WD40 you will have to do it monthly.
Managed to distract him from that and we went in to the kitchen so I could grab something to eat. I pulled the gate to behind me and he was happy with a kitchen roll inner as I wandered in and out getting toys. He did bark a little and once he stopped he sat nicely for a puppy treat. He played quite nicely but barked to go out a couple of times. I asked if he wanted to go in the garden and let him out. When it was clear he thought he should play in the conservatory he got picked up and brought back to the kitchen. He has been playing with the kitchen roll inner for a little while and has let me walk in and out without getting distressed. Infact lets try that again. Yes a small bark when I am out of sight which stopped when I spoke and he was happy for me to come back in and get him interested in the kitchen roll inner. Are we getting somewhere?
He barked at the gate to go out so I asked if he wanted to go in the garden. He dived in to the conservatory and was sniffing so I grabbed him and put him on the step. He dashed to the grass, sniffled about and piddled. Much whopping and hollering from me as he came running back in for a puppy treat. He sat nicely for it too. He is almost OK playing pin here but goes to the gate and barks every now and again. He can be distracted with a toy.
