Bathroom on my own

Rodders sort of woke up as I switched on some lights and I told him I was going upstairs to the bathroom if he wanted to come.

He trotted to the bottom of the stairs and lay down and waited for me to come back before moving back to his snuggle fleece.

It might not seem much but it is very exciting for me to be allowed to use the bathroom on my own and even more exciting that he made no noise while I did it :-)

Boys together

Rodders and OH seemed to be having a great time in the garden together, I could hear them as I pottered about upstairs, little barks and whines at things Rodders wasn't sure about. OH is brilliant with him and talks to him and explains what he is doing and stops to let Rodders come over and sniff things that he seems frightened of.

When I came down they were still happy playing and working alongside each other.

Once the noisy work started Rodders and I came inside and he settled on snuggle fleece at my feet and didn't move until OH popped his cup through the door for another cuppa. Once made we went out to have an inspection of work so far.

OH has borrowed a spade of Bob next door as I am a bit challenged in the garden equipment area!

Ugh

Rodders went in to his bed without a peep but I was wandering about upstairs moving things on radiators and he did have a bit of a whinge after about 10 minutes

So Rodders hasn't got the idea of the clock change at all :-( Does anyone have any idea how I stop him from waking at 5.30?

I know I could try just leaving him but when I do come down he is desperate to go out and it is 6 hours plus since his last piddle. He also makes enough noise to wake the neighbours.

He has been in the garden twice but has still piddled on the floor by the lounge door and so he got put out a 3rd time while I cleared up and sprayed liberally with the stain and odour stuff. The joys of open plan mean that I cannot keep him contained in the conservatory where he is close to the patio door - maybe I should have kept the doors :-( But he asks to go out a lot of the time so why do we have this in the morning?

I have put his breakfast down and he has eaten a little of it but doesn't yet seem interested in going back to it. I will lift it at 7am even if he hasn't eaten it.

He is currently playing in the conservatory with his toys.

Dozy dawg

Rodders has been a bit dozy today, not sure if it is the after effects of his jab yesterday or what. He seems to want a little play and then a snooze followed by another little snooze. He is now snoozing on snuggle fleece in the sunlight of the conservatory and getting up to give his toys the odd lick or chew but is nowhere near as lively as normal.

At least I am able to catch up on last nights TV!

Mr Bumble has decided to vacate the ciggie packet!

OH called to ask me to measure something in the garden (don't know why, I am useless with a tape measure!) so I hot footed it out with the measure and Rodders trotted behind me. He wasn't too happy with the metal tape measure and left me to it.

Just been out to measure something else and Rodders ran back in to the house crying. I went and got him and let him sniff the measure on the ground but as soon as I moved it he was back on the patio, at least he hadn't gone back in the house. Ah, maybe he has! As soon as I moved the tape closer to him he did a runner.

Not such an easy night

Although Rodders was shattered he wasn't too impressed at being put in his bed in his crate and he whined and cried for about 10 minutes before settling down.

I came to at 7am to him crying so came down as soon as I had used the bathroom, he had a piddle in the crate overnight on the puppy pad but he had been in there for 8 hours, just over. He had also thrown the snuggle fleece out of his bed so he must have been awake a while

We went straight out in to the garden and he had a piddle and wanted to come back in. I made him stay out until he had poo'd as well. He was interested in the piddle he did on the patio last night so at the first opportunity I got I went out and mopped it up and sprayed liberally with the odour and stain removal - he now wants to sniff and drink that.

He has also done a couple of things this morning that he hasn't before, he took the toy in his crate out and in to the conservatory and he dragged his snuggle fleece out and all the way down the lounge to the other one.

I am determined to stop him biting me today and improve on the 4 piddles in the house. When he has got rough with me I have tried to divert his attention with a toy and if that hasn't worked I have taken myself off behind the baby gate to the kitchen. We have also been out to the garden every 20 minutes so far.

He stopped dead at the sound of the bin men so we went and out out our bin to get him used to the noises. He has since stopped and listened a couple of times and then carried on playing.

He has played happily on his own in the conservatory (mainly)while I typed this up with an interruption for the garden and bin men, but has earnt an Aaaaargh or two when chewing something he shouldn't.

Up to date, now blogging in realtime!

I knew that we were getting visitors today so I wanted to try and pace Rodders a bit better. We got up and had breakfast and a bit of play. We also went to put the bin out as it is a strange noise and then we stood on the doorstep when the bin men collected so that he could hear the noise they make and hear the lorry. I then put him on my knee on his snuggle blanket and got him calm and dopey. Once he falls asleep I can put him and the blanket on the floor and he is happy there as long as I don't move too far.

My sister Kirsty and her friend Gill arrived and Rodders was a bit shy to start with and wanted me close. After a while he got braver, especially once Gill opened the puppy treats she brought him! They got to see him playing with his toys, peeing on his paper, dashing around the garden like a loony and sitting quietly with me. (They did also see him peeing on the floor so it wasn't all good).

When we sat at the table for lunch he asked to go out and played happily in the garden while we ate. He was always in sight and seemed to be having a great time.

After they left I got him to settle down for a nap for an hour but he seemed to be hyper when he woke up. We played inside and out but he wasn't calming down so I decided to take him for a walk (in my arms) around the corner to a slightly busier road to get him used to some different noises and places. When he seemed frightened I stopped walking and talked gently to him until he calmed down. We saw cars, vans and a couple of noisy children before reaching my local garage. We went in to see James and get a bit of a fuss before heading home again.

We got stopped at the corner by our neighbours Sue and Sophie who hadn't yet met Rodders. he seemed to like the fuss and we may have ourselves a puppy walker if I need to go back to work :-)

Got in and Rodders was still hyper. We tried playing but he was getting rough and nipping me rather than his chew toys. I have tried yelping like his litter mates do and, although it has worked in the past, it didn't today. I tried getting him to settle on my knee with the snuggle blanket but he wasn't having any of it. I tried wearing him out in the garden. I tried distraction. I tried squeaky toys. He wanted to pee and poo on the floor and he wanted to chew my rug. Eventually I had to resort to putting him in his crate for 5 minutes while I took the rug up and loaded the dishwasher. He wasn't happy about it and cried, whined, pulled at the puppy pad, stood in his water bowl (now a heavier one he can't move) and tried to climb up the side of the crate. When he was quieter (and me too!) I let him out. He was calmer, but still a little manic.

And then just before 7pm this evening he flopped on his snuggle blanket and he is still there. I suspect that he won't want supper again tonight.

He has woken a couple of times so far when I went to make a drink. Once he peed on the floor and the second time he went on the paper with a bit of encouragement. It is soooo much easier when he is dopey rather than hyper though!
