Rodders went in to his crate without too much trouble while I did a tour of the local sorting offices to collect the parcel - went to the wrong one first. And even more disappointing, the parcel isn't even for me, its for OH!
When I got back I was shouting across the green, passing the time of day with Lillian, and I was sure that Rodders would have heard me and expected him to start barking.
Not a sound as I came in the door and walked in to the lounge and only a minor squeak as I got to the crate. Rodders must have been out for the count as his tummy was very warm and toasty as he came out of the crate for a fuss.
Just got Rodders, a miniature schnauzer puppy and wanted to document our journey together. Never had a puppy or a blog before so this could be interesting!

How quick?
We went out for our usual walk up the Nicky Line and then on to the Rugby Field. With the speed that Rodders now runs we may soon be doing two laps of the rugby field!
Interestingly he only seems to bark at people when he is on the short lead, once he is on the extendable lead he just want to chase after them!
He looks as though he is about to settle down for a snooze so I think I may pop him in to his bed and nip to the sorting office to pick up yesterdays parcel.

A slow start but a busy morning!
After OH left for work Rodders had a nap while I caught up with the blog. It was then time to get washed and dressed and he wasn't too interested in the kibble filled Kong but was quite happy to wander about with slippers in his mouth instead, he doesn't seem to mind if it is mine or OH's. It kept him quiet and gave me time to do things!
I then sorted out the front bedroom and changed it from a twin room back to a single room, put out fresh towels in the bathroom and brought the dirty ones down to put in the machine, put liver treats in the oven and then went out and cleared up leaves. Rodders helped (!) with the last activity.
After a rest and some breakfast it was time to empty the freezer in to the cool box and throw away anything that was past it's best and switch it off to defrost. I threw a chunk of ice at Rodders who was playing in the passage, he had a lot of fun chasing it about, picking it up and then dropping it to bat about with his paws.
Once we were back in the kitchen I emptied and filled the washing machine and he went for a play in the conservatory before asking to go out. He was investigating under the tree until he heard a noise in the garages and started barking. When he didn't let up I went to see what was wrong just as Pat next door came in the back gate. We stopped for a chat, apparently Bob has been inside all week with a hacking cough and is feeling quite rough. She said hello to Rodders and I lifted him up for a fuss over the fence. They did hear him one night this week but thought that Bob's coughing had disturbed him.
We stayed out and poop scooped the garden and Rodders was trying to bite the bag so got a firm no. He tried again and then tried to jump away he caught his leg on the trowel, after that he kept his distance. He stayed out there while I went to the bin at the front and has just come in. By the amount of mud on him I think he has been digging.
He is now dashing about the conservatory chasing yoghurt pots.

Bed Time
After dinner Rodders settled on his new bed pad and had to be woken up and taken outside to the garden for a piddle at bed time. It took ages as he just sat on the grass for a while but he did eventually perform.
When we came back in OH said goodnight to him and headed upstairs. As I locked up and switched out lights Rodders sat on snuggle fleece but did move in to his bed when asked once he knew I had his treats ready. I said goodnight and closed the crate.
We didn't hear anything until 6.15am, not too bad as OH's alarm would have gone off 15 minutes later anyway.
OH got up and came down to Rodders leaving me to have almost another hour in bed. They had a play and a snuggle, Rodders went out for a piddle, back in for some breakfast and then out for a poo. It has been raining overnight so Rodders was quite wet when he came in.
They both came upstairs to wake me up. After a fuss Rodders was happy to run about with my slippers and check what OH was doing in the bathroom and lapping the water out of the shower tray.
Rodders then came up on the bed with me while OH got dressed & I got licked all over. I then got up so that we could come downstairs and say goodbye to OH.

Coming home
As we left the vets Rodders wasn't happy to walk very far as he was in front and he wanted to walk with his pals. We all said goodnight and got in our cars. Rodders had eaten so many Liver Treats that he actually refused a puppy treat as I put him in his crate, thats a first!
We got home and parked up and I got Rodders and his bed out of the car. He seemed happy to be heading home.
Once inside he walked through to the lounge and gave a bark as he spotted OH in there. It soon changed to squeaks of delight and he went up for a fuss.
A nice surprise for me, OH had cleaned and tidied the kitchen :-)
As I got dinner on the table OH played with Rodders and we put some food down for him, he wasn't interested at all and was happy to settle at our feet on snuggle fleece.

Puppy Party number two
As we arrived at the vets for Puppy Party I could see that others were just getting out of their cars. As I opened the back of my car to let Rodders out he started barking and as soon as he was down on the ground he was pulling to get towards Marley and Appa.
We all let the dogs stop and have a sniff hello before walking in the door and we were chatting about how our week had gone.
Once inside we were asked to move straight in to the waiting room so that they could bring an emergency through, this was the first of the night and another followed about an hour later.
Molly arrived a few minutes later and Nicci checked how our weeks had gone and then started to talk about tonights topics. Over the course of the evening we covered neutering, microchipping, feeding, pet insurance and then Nicci went on to answer any questions we had.
While we were all talking we let Appa and Rodders off their leads, Rodders was quite funny as he wasn't sure what to do for a minute. Nicci was sitting there with liver treats and as he started to walk towards her he got to what is normally the end of his lead and stopped and looked at me before realising that he was free to wander. They were quite happy trotting around sniffing, and going back for Liver Treats, but didn't seem to play much together. After a little while we let Molly and Marley down too. They play much rougher and Rodders wanted to join in and held his own much better this week. When things got too rough he would just go and sit by someones leg for some respite and then go and try again. Towards the end of the evening he just stayed on the outskirts at someones leg.
Appa was the star of the evening though. Nicci did have to rescue him from Marley and Molly at one point but he was soon happy to toddle off and went back behind the chairs. Once he took up a station under one of the chairs he wouldn't let any of the puppies under there with him and barked a warning to them. It was really funny to watch Molly and Marley trying to get to him and make him play, Appa wasn't having any of it and made it very clear. Rodders still needs to learn how to do this but he was paying attention and watching and listening to Appa.
While they were playing Judith, the other nurse, was taking photo's of them to attach to their file.
For the last 15 minutes Nicci threw out toys for the puppies to play with, Molly and Marley had a game of tug and Rodders didn't seem to impressed that the Kong didn't have any kibble in it so went off to find something else to play with.

OH gets stuck in traffic
Rodders slept for about an hour and then wanted to play, sometimes with his toys and sometimes doing something he shouldn't like taking the curtains for a walk so he earnt a few no's.
OH was trying to get home in time to join us at Puppy Party but the roads had a different idea. The plan had been to have a quick pasta dinner before we went and that wasn't going to happen either so I switched the oven on and threw some potatoes in for a late dinner when I got back.
Rodders wasn't too interested in his supper and only ate about half of it.
At about 7.15pm I locked the back door. Rodders now knows that this means that I am going out, he can tell by which coat goes on if he is coming too and started jumping up as soon as he spotted the dog walking coat.
He seemed to be excited about going out in the dark and was skipping along as we made our way to the car.
