A bit more active this afternoon

Rodders and I spent some time in the garden. First of all I poop scooped and then we played chase.

He came and lay on the kitchen floor while I emptied the washing machine and once he was told no he didn't try to bite things as they came out of the machine. Once the washing machine was empty he followed me upstairs while I hung stuff on the radiators and ran off with my slippers. One is still on the landing and the other is in the lounge.

I then put on my walking gear and we headed off down the Nicky Line following yesterdays route. Rodders was really funny once we swapped to the extendable lead. He would either run ahead of me and then sit and wait or he would lag behind me and wait for me to call him and come running so I turned it in to a training exercise.

As he seems to like this walk I thought I should check where it is we end up and apparently it is Keen Fields. I wasn't quite so keen on it today as I spotted drug paraphernalia up by the seating area and basketball court :-(

Anyway we did the walk around and Rodders loved running and sniffing about and he got to play with a boxer and a staff cross before we headed back up the Nicky Line.

He is funny if he gets anything stuck to his legs. He just sits down and waits for me to take it off him.

We got passed by a cyclist and a runner, Rodders was quite good and sat still for me while we let them passed. He doesn't like it when other dog walkers go past us if he isn't allowed to stop and say hello but he will keep walking even if he does keep looking back.

We walked back as far as the rugby field before turning and heading for home. Once inside I was trying to swap out of my wellies and Rodders was trying to bite the boots I was putting on so I shut him in the lounge. To start with he was quiet but he soon started squeaking as he hates being shut away from me if I am home.

Did I bring a different puppy home?

Since we got back from the vets Rodders has been playing much more than he has done since Wednesday. He has been chasing his toys and playing fetch, trying to eat the Christmas Tree, jumping on me, chewing the door mat, he has been in and out of the garden and came back soaked one time and covered in mud another and generally up to mischief! It is like I brought a different puppy home and so much nicer than the sad one of the last few days.

OH has called to check how he is doing and then again to say he is on his way home from work. We won't see him until Monday now :-(

I have checked the freezer and we have two more bags of cooked chicken so I have taken another one out to defrost ready for tomorrow, which means that I only need to cook up some more rice for him.

As I am typing Rodders has settled down on a snuggle fleece for a rest.

How quick?

We went out for our usual walk up the Nicky Line and then on to the Rugby Field. With the speed that Rodders now runs we may soon be doing two laps of the rugby field!

Interestingly he only seems to bark at people when he is on the short lead, once he is on the extendable lead he just want to chase after them!

He looks as though he is about to settle down for a snooze so I think I may pop him in to his bed and nip to the sorting office to pick up yesterdays parcel.

Not very active

Rodders hasn't been too active today, he did some running about for a couple of hours this morning and then almost three hours this afternoon and evening but he has now collapsed in a heap at my feet on snuggle fleece. So is five hours activity in a day enough? Will he have me up at the crack of dawn tomorrow?

That said, when he has been active he has been very active (and very vocal today). He has run about the rugby field and the garden, played with the stones on the patio, chased toys up and down the house, run up and down stairs several times and jumped up me many times. He has barked, woofed and squeaked all day. Sometimes I know what he is saying, other times I haven't a clue.

We had a bit of a battle earlier over him chewing the carpet but generally he has been very good.

Cleaning

Skevi, our lady that does, turned up about 4.30pm and Rodders was already awake and was letting me comb him through. He barked as she came in the front door but went running to the back door, wonder if he thought it was OH coming home. He let me carry on and finish combing him but he wasn't happy about the slicker so I did two legs and stopped.

Rodders quite enjoys following Skevi around as she cleans, she is used to a toddler and just treats him the same, talking to him and explaining what she is doing. He does like to chase the mop and swiffer so she shut him out of the kitchen while she mopped and while the floor dried, he just sat at the baby gate and barked anyway. But it was a please let me play bark, totally non aggressive!

He ate most of his supper while she was working upstairs and then asked to go in the garden.

Once Skevi left he wanted up on my knee for a snuggle and snooze. I let him have a short rest as we need to go out in about an hour for puppy party.

Awake and active

Once Rodders woke properly he was a much better behaved puppy and was happy playing in the conservatory and in the garden until it was time for me to get washed and dressed.

I filled his Kong with the remains of his breakfast and took that upstairs with me. He finished that in record time and was then up to mischief while I was trying to get dressed. At one point he ran off with OH's slipper which is a first when I have been with him.

Once I was dressed I sorted out a couple of loads of washing and the things to go to the dressmaker then carried it all down stairs with Rodders as it is quicker if you want to do anything.

I put the washing in the machine and then we went in to the garden for a game of chase. Once back inside Rodders was still running around and I was hoping he would tire himself out as I needed to go to the dressmaker and Tesco. Sure enough, he wanted up for a snuggle. As I was snuggling him I explained that I had to go out and he needed to stay here, he started to make squeaky noises in protest. Once I had my coat on I put him in his bed, gave him his treats, shut the crate and walked away. He was quiet at this point but then I found that my handbag wasn't on the bottom of the stair so I had to come back in and he started barking. I could hear him crying by the time I got to the car.

Excited to be home

Rodders was pleased to be home and ran straight in to the conservatory to find his toys before asking to go in the garden.

He was happy out there and barked to let me know that Bob next door was about. I went out to say hello and then had a game of chase with Rodders.

Back inside he was happy playing until he started to chew the rolled up carpet and I had to give him a firm no. He wasn't happy with that and got a little bitey and, unfortunately, I didn't one quick enough :-( It was only a little nip and I know he didn't mean to do it. Something that needs to be resolved, and quickly, so I will bring it up at Puppy School this morning.

Snooze, garden, play

Once Rodders had got over someone in his garden he was happy to snooze a little longer at my feet on snuggle fleece. He woke up when I went upstairs to hang out some washing and followed me up.

Once back downstairs he wanted out in to the garden and played happily for about half an hour until he started to bark. I went out to see what he was barking at and Bob next door was whistling at him over the fence.

Rodders was being playful and wanted me to chase him around the garden so I obliged for 10 minutes. We then came back inside and he is happily chewing his bone in the conservatory while I catch up on some TV.

Playing

Once I got back this morning Rodders slept for almost two hours and then woke up as a bundle of energy.

We went straight in to the garden so he could have a piddle - eventually - first of all he had to bark at Bob and Pat and then go and say hello over the garden fence and get a fuss. He has been on the go ever since. Running in and out of the garden, chasing his toys, playing fetch with his ball, tug with the monkey and he has even worked out that when the washing machine is on the water comes down the drain if he stands and waits long enough.

We have had the brushes out and given him a good groom so he looked nice and pretty for about five minutes.

At about 3.45 he decided it was time for a walk and went and stood at the lounge door and barked. Once I put my coat on he was nearly beside himself and when I went in to the hall to out on my wellies he ran up the stairs and stood at the top barking. I brought him back down, got my wellies on and then it took ages to get him to sit before I could put his lead on.

We eventually got out of the house and turned right. As we got to the top of Pentland we met Lillian and Chris, back from a shopping trip, and they stopped to talk to him (& me in the end!).

We walked to the Rugby Field and then on to the Nicky Line. He was walking much better, although rather than sitting down he did lie down one time! Once on the Nicky Line a Golden Retriever was following us and Rodders kept messing about until it caught us up so he could say hello. He was then nearly running to catch it up again. Until I man on a bike came towards us with a Shitzu.....

Rodders stood there, back legs splayed and let the dog approach him! They played for a little while and, even though I thought they were getting a bit rough, he didn't try to hide behind my legs at all. This sounds like progress to me!

Once they carried on we walked as far as the goal posts and then cut back in to the field and walked back towards home. Rodders spotted a King Charles playing ball and was fascinated and kept stopping to watch. He still seemed happy to walk so we turned right towards the road.

We haven't done much walking along the main road so I thought we should give it a try. He was very good and the only time he stopped to have a look was when a bus came past us.

We turned left, then right, back towards home and as we got to Pentland he almost ran the rest of the way home.

I got to see it all!

I kept very quiet and still on the sofa and managed to see the whole Grand Prix :-) By the end of it I was starving and thirsty but Rodders has to come first.

He didn't want to wake up but he had been asleep for almost 3 hours! I took him out in to the garden where he promptly lay down and looked like he was going back to sleep! I left him there and gradually he started to move around and chase leaves and eventually had a piddle.

Having fun

Rodders played quite happily both inside and out. He now likes to take his toys outside to the garden but always seems to bring them back.

Eventually he got bored and went to bark at the front door so I got my coat and made him sit while I put his lead on. yes, I know he can't walk outside yet but we can practice to and from the door and he can get used to the extra weight on his collar.

We got stopped at the door by a delivery driver and then we were on our way. We walked up to the Rugby Field (where he will soon be getting lots of walks) down to the main road, along and back through the estate.

We met a little girl with a big Husky. He was interested in Rodders but he paid no attention which earnt Rodders a fuss from her.

He is much more interested in the traffic now and turns his head to watch rather than trying to bury it in my arms.

Back home and in to the garden where he tried to chew his lead, he had walked from the front door with it in his mouth, so I made him sit while I took it off.

We had a run about playing chase which he loves, he barks to ask me to run about again.

I then spotted a half eaten strawberry so grabbed the camera to take a picture as evidence.

He is now playing happily outside and comes running back in for a fuss before chasing off out again.

Big boy brush

Well we haven't been getting on so well with the puppy brush as he just wants to play with it. So this afternoon I stuck him on the patio table and used the slicker brush on him and left the puppy brush for him to chew. This seemed to work and he looked a lot prettier for 5 minutes and earnt lots of tummy rubbing, puppy treats and whooping.

He was then off to run around the garden like a lunatic, until someone was making a lots of noise out the back. I spotted him sprinting for the back door and headed him off to play chase, which he loves. He is now out there playing on his own again quite happily :-)
