Lunch and early evening

When I came home at lunch time Rodders was asleep and didn't make a sound until I was almost at his crate. He started squeaking as soon as he knew I was there and I let him out for a quick fuss before letting him out in to the garden. He stood on the patio looking back at me as if to say I'm not sure if you are going to abandon me so I went out with him. He had a quick piddle and was then happy to follow me back in.

I asked if he was a hungry boy and he barked before running towards the kitchen. He sat watching me as I weighed out his lunch and put it in the bowls and he sat until I had put it down for him. While he was eating I made a cuppa and filled his water bowls. He didn't eat all his kibble this time.

Once he had eaten he was happy to play so I got his ball thrower and we went back in to the garden. He loves chasing the ball but doesn't really get the hang of bringing it back. Although the weather was now dry and bright it was freezing so I left him out there happily playing with the ball for a little while.

Once he had got bored with playing with the ball I nipped out and got it and he came back in with me. All too soon is was time for me to go back to work. As his tummy seems to be OK I gave him some of his left over kibble as a treat as I popped him back in his crate.

As part of my job I have to go to the local bank which is about a 5 minute walk away. I looked at my watch at 3pm and thought shall I go now? I should have done as less than 20 minutes later it had gone pitch black outside and it was throwing out down with rain. Luckily it was only a short, sharp shower and by 4pm it had brightened up again so I dashed out then. The temperature had dropped and it was a bit breezy but I got some fresh air and it helps to break up the afternoon.

I left work at 5pm and was home by five past. Rodders seemed to be asleep again! I do hope he has been OK and hasn't barked the house down. He was happy to come out the crate and have a fuss and also went in to the garden on his own for a piddle.

He has been so funny this evening. He has been in and out of the garden playing with the stones and running between the grass, leaping over the edge of the patio, dashing under the table, around a leg and back again. He has also managed to get the duck to quack and had a great time growling at it and he has been playing with his ball and frizzbee.

I also found time to pop him on the grooming table and come him through. He escaped from the noose that is supposed to help keep him still but it wasn't a problem as he still stood there (most of the time) and let me carry on. He even let me sort out his gunky eyes without complaint. When he did try to sit down I put my arm under his back legs and held him up. The only bit he doesn't seem keen on is when I try to get him to stand on his back legs so that I can do his tummy.

OH is on his way and dinner is already underway, good job as I am starving!

A bit of play, a bit of rest and a comb through

Rodders has been in and out of the garden playing for most of the afternoon. As it has been raining a fair bit this has also meant that he has had to be towelled off each time. Luckily he doesn't seem to mind.

He has also played quietly with his nylabone lying on the mat by the back door or he has laid on the snuggle fleece by the front radiator. He has also chased up and down after his ball, played with his yoghurt pot and beaten up his teddy so it hasn't all been quiet play.

He did come up on the sofa once I had put the new fleece blanket on it and he seems to approve as he was fast asleep for a while. When he woke up he wanted his tea and then went out in to the garden for a little while.

Once he was back in and dried off I popped him on the grooming table and combed him through and sorted out his gunky eye. He is such a fantastic puppy, he doesn't complain at all when I mess about with him like that. I really am so lucky!

It is obviously hard work being groomed as after a short play he is actually snoring on his bed pad at my feet!

A bit of walking and a bit of shopping

The postie came and delivered the new choke chain I ordered yesterday, what great service that is. It is quite fine but it will do for now and I know that he can't get his leg trapped in it like he did with the bigger one. I can always use the longer, more robust one for puppy school.

Rodders and I headed up the rugby field reasonably early as rain is forecast for later. As usual he walked nicely up there and sat while I swapped leads. He was very happy running around sniffing and wanted to play with a greyhound that completely ignored his pleas! Unfortunately it would now seem that he has a bit of a squitty botty so I need to keep an eye on that.

I spoke to OH about it and I am not going to up the ratio of kibble to id diet for now to see if it settles down. It may just be that the kibble is a bit rich for his delicate tummy right now.

Once we were back from the field we went out in to the garden and had a play with his new ball launcher. He seems to like chasing his ball and picking it up but he isn't very good at giving it back so we need to work on that. Once he got the ball he was happy to run about with it in his mouth and it was even more fun if I was chasing him! This could be a better idea for play at lunchtime rather than me trying to find the time to walk him in my 45 minute break.

Once I had worn him out a bit I needed to put him in his crate and go out shopping, he wasn't very happy about it but he did go in without making a noise once I put his front paws in. Rodders is spending much more time up on the sofa with me and so I want a blanket or throw to cover it with as it is too difficult to keep him on his snuggle fleece. I headed to Dunelm as they have a sale on and I got a wine coloured fleece blanket that matches the sofa which had 30% off, a cover for the bed that I can use in the summer instead of the duvet with 50% off and a non slip bathmat for when Rodders goes in there with 15% off. I do like a bargain!

I then went to Sainsbury's to fill up with fuel before heading in to town. I had a look at the M&S and Next sales without buying anything and then wandered in to Accessorise to see if there was anything to spend my Christmas vouchers on. I found a silly hat with matching glove/mittens to keep me warm on cold windy days and another hat to match the glove/mittens I got bought for Christmas for when it isn't so windy. Both will also hide bad hair days very nicely. All with 50% off! More bargains :-) So that is half of my vouchers spent. I also picked up a small present to put away for a February birthday.

I thought I had better head home before I got too carried away. Rodders was very happy to hear me put the key in the lock and started to squeak straight away. It wasn't because he wanted out either as he wouldn't go out until after he had eaten his lunch.

It's all go

We got back from the vets and I started to get everything ready to go away later in the day.

At 9.30am I popped Rodders back in to the car to nip to Puppy School to see Sam to explain that we can't do today's class as Rodders is poorly and, now I am working, we can't do the Friday class anymore so we will be back to the Saturday class in January. I also wanted to get Rodders a new choke chain. Sam checked and the only choke chain they had was a bit big for Rodders but we heeled around the room to make sure that he couldn't escape from it when it went slack. We had a chat about how he was doing and she can see how much more confident he is.

Back home I swapped jackets and put Rodders in his crate so that I could nip to Tesco as I needed some final bits to make dip - I would be sent home if I turned up at Christmas without it!

Rodders was a bit fed up of all the time I was spending in the kitchen making dip and he took himself off to his bed for a while. He was happier when I had finished and he came upstairs with me while I finished packing my bag. I started to bring down the bags of Christmas presents while he sat on the landing chewing my slipper.

He then wanted to go in the garden which meant that I could pack most of the car without worrying about him. Once he came in I took him for a quick walk around the neighbourhood while I delivered the last of the Christmas cards and then put him back in the lounge while I finished loading the car.

We managed to leave home just before 2pm and stopped at the pet shop at St Albans for some bits I had forgotten and then headed up the A1 towards Oakham. The weather was getting awful, what started as a cold morning had gone through drizzle and was now chucking it down with rain. At one point we were down  to 50mph as the spray was so bad. Then we found out that there was a problem on the A1 and we may need to divert off. Then the traffic news said the road was open and then, when we were almost beyond the point of no return, they changed their mind. Grrrr.

We found our way off the A1 and on to the A47 and got stuck behind someone that thought it was good to drive at between 35-45mph. By the time we got to Uppingham there was quite a daisy chain of frustrated drivers behind him. Luckily for me he turned left as I turned right. Three hours after setting off we eventually got to my big sisters!

While in the car I managed to talk to both my sisters and OH. Rodders wasn't bothered by that or the fact that he had been in the car for ages and he didn't make a sound all the way.

After we had said hello to my brother in law and Ailie I took Rodders in to the garden for a piddle while they emptied my car. Ailie had great fun putting all the presents under the tree and Rodders hasn't really paid them any attention at all. My sister was away having her hair done and got back about half an hour later.

I gave Rodders his tea about 5.30pm and then took him up the road for a walk and let him have a runabout on  his extendable lead. He kept getting bits of tree stuck in his legs and when this happens he just sits down until I remove it, bit difficult in the dark but we managed!

About 7.30pm my other two nieces arrived with a husband and a boyfriend. It was good to see them all together, I can't remember when that last happened. It was quite noisy and Rodders took a moment before he decided that he was happy with all these people around and then threw himself in to things and was getting lots of fuss. I made sure that everyone is aware that they cannot feed him anything because of his poorly tummy.

I tried to keep Rodders out of the kitchen while dinner preparation were afoot as he was trying to scavenge. We all sat down for dinner and Rodders was (mostly) on his snuggle fleece beside me. He did escape under the table a couple of times, I hope he didn't find anything to eat.

Once dinner was over I gave him his supper. He seems much happier of 75g and is taking a little longer to eat it.

There are so many people moving about that he found it hard to settle and probably didn't fall asleep on his bed pad until gone 10.30pm this evening. I will take him out in to the garden before bed, just not sure when that will be!

Rain and supper

While I was cooking my dinner the rain started to fall really heavily. To start with Rodders just barked at the noise on the conservatory roof but he then decided to go out in it. I delayed serving up as I knew that he was going to come in soaked and would need to be dried off, luckily he didn't stay out long.

OH has said several times that there is nothing wrong with Rodders hearing and today proves it. As I was pottering about doing things I was opening the lounge door to put things on the stairs to be taken up later or to go to the bin at the front door. Where ever Rodders was he came running incase I was going to go out without him.

After I had eaten I gave him his supper and he cleared the bowl! This is the first time I have been able to do the recommended thing and feed him after me. Usually he would be fast asleep from 7pm but he is now staying awake longer.

After supper he kept barking to go out but when I opened the door he changed his mind. The third time he actually went and came back in very wet so he was towelled off again.

After quite a long play with his toys and yoghurt pot and a game of fetch with his ball he asked to come up on my knee and once he settled down I moved him to the bed pad at my feet.

An active puppy

Rodders slept on the bed pad at my feet until about 9.30 and then wanted in to the garden. Heaven knows where he found it but he came back in with some bubble wrap in his mouth.

We then went upstairs for me to wash and dress and he ate another kong full of kibble. While I was getting dressed he sat on the bed and, even though I had put my underwear on the pillow he left it alone when asked. He did try to help me put my socks on though.

Once I was dressed I put him on the floor while I sorted out some washing. He disappeared with one of my slippers and I could hear him squeaking and went to check where he was. He was squeaking because the door to the lounge was shut and he couldn't get in so I ignored him, the next minute he appeared in the bedroom and took my other slipper off. Oh well, at least they will both be downstairs!

I sorted the washing and went to go down stairs with it and found Rodders on the landing with both slippers so he can now carry them both down and upstairs.

As I put the washing on he asked to go in the garden and was running about sniffing and playing with the stones. It has started to rain by the time he came in and he was happy to play with his toys and yoghurt pots. He likes to hide the yoghurt pots under a chair and then pretend that he can't get to them. Once I am down on the floor trying to retrieve them he will jump all over me, he even barks at them in places he can easily get to.

He is just a bundle of energy this morning and I need to wear him out so that I can pop him in the crate while I go to Tesco to get this weeks shopping. Off to play ball for a while!

We have had a nice afternoon

After his fairly long snooze Rodders woke up and wanted to play. I was just about to take him for a walk to use up some of the surplus energy but it was chucking it down with rain so we stayed home.

We played fetch with his ball and hide and seek with his crisp packet for a while and I used this as a training exercise to get him to stop playing and to sit and wait before we started again. I then combed him through without too much messing about so Rodders got a treat for this.

We then had a snuggle on the sofa before he went off to play with his yoghurt pots. He heard Bob and Pat next door going out so wanted to go in to the garden and bark. When he wouldn't stop barking I made him come back in.

I spotted that he had a gunky eye so we had a bit of a battle while I sorted that out. I think he is learning that if I want to do something like his eyes or coat it is easier not to fight me too much because I am going to do it anyway.

He has been back out in to the garden a couple of times and the wind is getting up so he has been standing with his head in to it so his ears go flying out behind him, he looks so funny!

About 5pm he went in to the kitchen and barked and barked so I asked if he was hungry and he started prancing about so I let him have his supper. He has eaten about two thirds of his kibble so I may put it back down again later of he asks for it.

When I was in the kitchen peeling potatoes for my dinner he obviously thought it was carrots and just stood and barked at me. I was telling OH about this and he told me I was being mean and should let him have a carrot. So nice Mummy I am I went and got him the last carrot top and he ran off to the conservatory munching it.

As I sat down to eat my dinner Rodders settled on his snuggle fleece and fell asleep. He has now moved through to his bed pad by the sofa but he won't be there too long as OH is calling in on his way past.

After another play with me and his ball he decided to play with the curtains but did stop when asked.

Saturday night/Sunday Morning

Rodders slept on my knee for a lot of yesterday evening, each time I put him & snuggle fleece down on the floor he woke up and squeaked until I gave in and let him back up.

I had to carry him out in to the garden for a piddle at bedtime. Neither of us wanted to be out there as it was blowing a gale so as soon as he had done what he had to do he ran back in to the house.

Because of a battle over the bed pad the crate door was pushed too so he couldn't out himself to bed. Must remember to open it on the way out if that happens again.

He sat on snuggle fleece as I locked up and switched off the lights and had to be lifted in to his bed as I gave him his treats, said goodnight and locked the crate.

Not a peep from him until 6.50 this morning, very surprising as it was really windy overnight.

I came down and let him in to the garden and he had a piddle and came straight back in for a snuggle before asking to go back out for a poo. He also started to bark at Bob next door who was off fishing so I went out to say hello and quieten Rodders down. It was spitting with rain so I told Bob he was brave to be going out in this and to make sure he was anchored down.

We came back in and Rodders was happy to come up on my knee for a while.

Someone stole the naughty puppy

Rodders slept from OH leaving until I woke him up to go out in the garden for a piddle at about 10.30. It was chucking it down with rain so neither of us were very happy to be out there and he quickly did what he had to do and we came back in.

I put him in his bed with a couple of treats and shut the crate, not a peep.

I woke at 6.30 and there was silence. I lay there listening for him and he gave the odd noise but nothing serious. At 7am he was a little more vocal but not like he usually is. I got up and walked across the landing to the bathroom and he started to bark but stopped barking as I came down the stairs and started making puppy noises.

Rodders came out of the crate and rolled over for a fuss. After giving him a big fuss for being such a good boy we went in to the garden. He piddled and pooped and then had a bit of a play before we headed inside for me to make a cuppa.

He has been happy to play with his toys in the conservatory and has stopped chewing the rolled up carpet when I have said Rodders No without any fuss twice now.

He has been so affectionate this morning, and has been up for snuggles and then back down to play.

As I have got his treat pot filled up to cover us for the next few days he sat nicely in the kitchen so got to sample one of each, after breakfast of course!

Rainy morning

I had to pick Rodders up and take him in the garden for his final piddle of the day, he wasn't impressed but did what he had to do. We came in and I got his treats and put him in his crate, Rodders grizzled a bit when we went upstairs but settled after about 10 minutes.

He heard OH's alarm go off this morning and started to get a bit vocal as he heard him get up and go to the bathroom. OH came down and gave him a fuss as he got him out of his crate and then it was straight outside for a piddle before dashing back in for more fuss and then going out for a poo then in for a play and a snuggle. Each time Rodders came in he had to be towelled off as it is chucking it down with rain, not that it seems to bother Rodders! OH got their breakfasts and Rodders ate a little but there was much more exciting things to be doing.

Rodders was very happy when I came down and came running to great me. Not sure he was so happy about it when I got the flea and worm treatment out but luckily OH got to administer it! Rodders got his collar off for this but it stays on 24/7 now - OH disagrees with this and thinks it should be taken off at night.

Rodders stayed downstairs with me while OH went upstairs to get dressed but he wasn't happy about it and went to the bottom of the stairs and barked. He also had a sniff at my wellies before trying to climb the stairs. I carried him up and he was happy running about while we both got dressed.

Once back downstairs I put on my coat and wellies and got his collar and lead. Rodders seems to know that the lead means that he is getting to go out but I think he was a bit confused as we were A) Going out the back door and B) OH was coming too so he was making little whinging noises. He soon got over it, at least until we got to the back gate and I had to leave him with OH and nip back for my phone, he didn't like that at all.

We said goodbye to OH and went off on our walk. It was very different this morning as it was throwing it down with rain with lots of puddles and different sounds and smells. Rodders seemed quite happy to start with and was skipping along, stopping to look as vehicles came past us, until a van and trailer came past. He wasn't so sure of that and tried to run away, luckily the lead stopped him from getting too far and I managed to calm him down and carry on with our walk. By this stage Rodders was getting quite wet and kept stopping to have a shake, we had only been out 10 minutes when we got back to Pentland and Rodders wasn't too sure about going any further so I let him head towards home. He found lots to sniff at on the green and was quite happy to go beyond the front path so we carried on around the back. He didn't seem to want to go back so we walked beyond the garages on to the grass where he had a poo.

He was then happy to head home and get dried off. I made a cuppa fairly quickly so that Rodders would settle on snuggle fleece. He is always exhausted after his walks.

Just checked his bowl and he has eaten most of his breakfast, just not all at once!

Strange dog!

Rodders is definitely strange! While I was making dinner I cut some of the stalk of a bit of broccoli and I offered him a little bit. He played with it for a little while and then wolfed it down and came back for more. I gave him the bigger bit and he spent about 10 minutes eating it in the kitchen.

While I ate my dinner he played in the conservatory quite happily. Once I cleared up we went out to the car to bring in his bed as this dozy mare forgot it when I brought him in earlier. As we walked towards the car he gave a slight whimper :-(

Once back in I put his bed in the crate and out his snuggle fleece back in there too. He wasn't happy about that and soon got hold of it and dragged it out to the left, round and then right towards the conservatory. Determined little horror.

He has the devil in him this evening, I think he is missing his play mate! He asked to come up with me but after letting him wriggle and mouth me for 10 minutes he has been put down. He has wriggled on the floor beating hell out of snuggle fleece, he has been for a drink out the bowl in the crate and had a chew at the crate, he has tried to get up on the other sofa, tugged at the fleece covering his crate and is now beating up the monkey.

Oh yes, and we have both been out in the rain as he asked to go out and wouldn't go on his own. All he wanted to do out there was play!

More people!

I wasn't thinking and came home the usual way only to find the road was still closed. We dived round the back of Queens Square and out the other way. Only took a few minutes longer.

When we got back Lillian was just coming round from the garages and stopped to fuss Rodders and have a natter. She is a lovely lady and always manages to have a giggle with me. Rodders was so patient while we were talking and didn't wriggle at all.

We came in to the house and Rodders went straight in to the garden for a piddle and a play around. Checked my phone and we have 2 messages from OH, one wishing us luck and the other to find out how we got one. Sent him a reply but the impatient so and so couldn't wait and was soon on the phone!

I started dinner and Rodders came to join me in the kitchen so I let him have his carrot. He played with it for a little but he is tired out so I went and got snuggle fleece and we are now both in the kitchen with one of us asleep, wonder who that is!

We have had rain again for some of today and Rodders doesn't seem bothered by it at all, not even when it is hammering down on the conservatory roof!

My hero!

Rodders chased a spider earlier, I knew he would protect me :-)

He has been snoozing for a while on snuggle fleece and so when he stirred I asked if he wanted to go out and he ambled, slowly, towards the door. I opened it and stepped out and then shot back in as it is chucking it down! Rodders stuck his head out and thought about it.

Meanwhile I changed out of my slippers in to my shoes and grabbed by coat and went back to the door. When I turned round to see where Rodders was he had curled up beside my slippers!

With a bit of encouragement he came outside and had a piddle and quite liked being rubbed off in the towel when he came back in. He stopped and cleared his supper bowl on the way back in and now seems to quite like Tuna.

He then sat down on his snuggle fleece and had a think, and then asked to go out again, this time on his own. He seems to like the rain too :-) When he was ready to come back in he barked to make sure I knew he was on his way and ready with the towel. He then sat nicely for a treat.

We came back through to the lounge and he asked to come up and he is sitting here, on snuggle fleece, beside me :-) He has shown a little interest in the lappie but has now settled down, well as much as a fidget arse like him can!

Forgot to mention

Rodders went out to play in a shower today, he seemed to enjoy it and was quite happy out there on his own :-)

And another thing or two

When I got up to make a cuppa and lifted Rodders bowl he had eaten ALL of his tea!!!! First clean bowl in a few days.

When I am here on my own I always take Rodders up to the bathroom with me - unless he is fully occupied in the garden - and this is always a bit problematic in the evening as he is so dopey. We have just been up and he didn't even try to stand as I put him down. Until he spotted my slippers on the floor...... He ambled over and gave them a lick, I was fully expecting them to be chewed.

I decided to put them on before we came back down and it seems to have woken Rodders up as he is chewing my feet.

OH has called me on FaceTime and we can see and hear him. Rodders isn't reacting at all - ah, he wasn't until he was on my lap and could see the picture. He was quite sweet moving his head from side to side trying to work out where the voice was coming from. Can't believe OH was talking to the puppy over FaceTime, how nice is that. It's funny that he is as soppy over Rodders as me!

Just been out so Rodders could have a piddle and the howling gale has now been joined by a few spots of rain. Unfortunately it seems to have woken him up a bit so I need to settle him before bedtime.
