Whats that noise?

Rodders heard something just after 5am this morning that unsettled him and he started to squeak. OH got straight up with him and took him in the garden for a piddle and then they both settled down on the floor for a snooze with Rodders wrapped up against OH's chest on snuggle fleece. They remained there until the alarm went off.

As soon as I got up and dressed I took Rodders out for a piddle and poo so that OH could get ready in peace. He then carried some of the luggage and the crate out to the car before we went for breakfast.

Rodders started off a little bit noisy, barking as people came in, but we soon got him to settle and he lay on snuggle fleece between us. He got lots of fuss from the staff too.

Once breakfast was over we came back to the hotel and Rodders got lots more fuss from people in reception, one chap even took his photo. OH sorted out the bill and then had to go off to work. Rodders and I went back to the room to have a bit if a rest. I also took a call from the agency regarding the long term temp job, could I attend an interview at 4pm today. Yes I can :-)

We got a call from reception to ask if Rodders could do a guest appearance as there were more people that would like to see him. He was very happy to come out for more fuss and photo opportunities!

Afterwards we went back to the room and he settled down beside me on his snuggle fleece for another snooze and then woke up heaved twice and threw up :-( It would appear that green beans and cauliflower are not good for his tummy. Luckily it was all contained on the fleece.

I hadn't realised before, but he obviously wasn't his usual self this morning. Almost as soon as he had thrown up and I had cleared up he was back to his usual bouncy self so I decided it was a good time to head off for the final part of our adventure.

Out for dinner

Once OH brought in our luggage and Rodders crate we had a cuppa while we got settled in and then changed for dinner. I did give Rodders his supper but he didn't eat too much of it.

Rodders was a bit more interested in the people around and we were hoping that a friend would join us for a drink so we chose to eat in the bar again. The waiting staff had actually set us up at our usual table in the restaurant so had to move everything for us.

Rodders did stay under the table but spent a lot of his time with his nose peaking out from behind my legs! He did eventually curl up on snuggle fleece and go to sleep. OH had a steak and saved a tiny bit for Rodders along with some vegetables. OH came and sat with him while I nipped out to find out where our friend was. She was on her way but would still be a while so we decided to finish our drinks and let her join us back in our hotel room.

Another adventure

Rodders and I were off to Southampton again to meet up with OH. He really isn't bothered by me packing and just potters around upstairs following me.

I am lucky that he always seems to ask to go out in to the garden about the time I need to pack the car so I get to do that fairly easily. Once we got in the car to leave Rodders had a bit of a whinge but settled down after about five minutes. Once I got to Southampton I had to go to get fuel and he wasn't happy being left in the car and gave the odd bark until I got back in.

We got to the hotel and I took Rodders straight out to the back garden for a piddle before we went in. We were greeted by the Manager, it was a bit busy as she was seeing other guests in so we didn't hang about for long. I took Rodders through to our room and then back in to the garden for a run about as he was barking a bit. Once back inside we played fetch with his crisp packet and he then settled down until OH was on his way.

We went out to meet OH but Rodders was barking at other guests  when I tried to get him to sit and wait so we were walking about. As OH came over the bridge he stopped, wound the window down and shouted at Rodders before going off to park at the other end of the car park. In his desperation to get to OH Rodders nearly dragged me across the car park! I think we can safely say that he loves OH as much as he loves me!

An exciting morning!

As soon as Rodders woke OH took him straight out for a piddle and a poo. By the time he came in I was in the bathroom getting ready so that I could keep Rodders amused while OH got showered and dressed.

Before we went to breakfast we packed and put the first load in the car. Rodders also had his breakfast before we went.

We sat at the same table as last night for breakfast and there was more staff for Rodders to meet. He did bark a couple of times as people came in but did settle back down fairly quickly.

After breakfast we went back to the hotel and I took Rodders in to the garden while OH paid the bill. Rodders was happy running about until he heard someone and he started to bark. We went to investigate who it was and found Sharon the Head Housekeeper. After saying good morning to Sharon Rodders and I came back in and helped OH pack the last of the luggage in to the cars and said goodbye as OH headed off to work.

Rodders and I had a snuggle on the floor for a while and got a knock on the door. It was the rest of housekeeping coming to meet Rodders! Then Sue spotted him and came for a cuddle! He really is a popular boy!

We left the hotel about 9.30am and headed to Winchester as there is a Christmas Market there. We used the Park and Ride so Rodders got to go on a bus for the first time. He was so good and sat or lay at my feet. Once in Winchester we found a farmers market and had a wander around there before heading off to the Christmas Market at the Cathedral. It was really good and we ambled around once to have a look at all the stalls, then stopped so I could have a drink at one of the outside stalls, and then back round again so I could buy a few Christmas presents. Lots of people stopped to talk to Rodders and to fuss him and he really is getting so much better. He also kept to my heels and sat and waited while I looked at things.

I did take a phone call from an employment agency while we were here. They have a two month temp job in Hemel and wondered if I was interested. I said yes and they told me who it was, someone that has already declined to interview me for a Credit Manager's job as I am too experienced :-( We will wait and see if anything comes of this.

We came back through the farmers market and made a couple of purchases before heading back to the bus stop. On route we came across another miniature schnauzer so we stopped to say hello. As I was chatting to the owners the dogs were having a great time playing and barking at each other.

We parted company and then had to wait ten minutes for the bus. Rodders sat most of the time and again people were stopping to talk to him. We got so many complements in the last 24 hours I may need to enlarge the doors at home!

By this stage Rodders was getting very tired so when the bus arrived he had to be picked up to get on and then wanted up on my knee. He did bark at a couple of people as they got on or off the bus but was generally very good.

Overnight

On the way back to our room we came back through reception. Sue, the hotel manager, was on duty and came out for a play with Rodders and gave him one of the special treats she saves for the good dogs that visit. We were all stood around talking and Rodders started to squeak so I went out to give him a run around the garden so that he could have a piddle. He heard someone coming round from the Car Park and started barking, it was only Sue coming to say goodnight and we walked back in together to collect OH from reception.

He and Rodders had a snuggle on the floor to quieten then both down for the night! I then took Rodders out again just in case he needed a final piddle but he didn't. We then popped him in his crate in the bathroom for the night.

Almost immediately Rodders started to whinge and I thought that we would be on our way home fairly quickly. OH got up to him and lay with him for a little while to settle him. No sooner had OH got back in to bed than two loud guest were outside our room talking loudly and Rodders started up again. OH went back and managed to settle him again.

And then there wasn't a peep until 6.30am. Just amazing!

The adventure continues

Once OH was settled we slipped out the back again so we could bring in my bag and Rodders Car Crate - this is also used as his travel crate and he sleeps in here at night, or we hope he does!

Rodders and OH had a quick snuggle before we both changed for dinner and made our way over to the main club. We found a table in the bar and Rodders settled fairly quickly. I had taken a snuggle fleece and some treats just in case. Tuesday night in music night and there is a jazz trio in the restaurant, which we can hear from the bar, so it is always a little busy. Also, OH had been bragging about Rodders so the staff and regulars already knew all about him were all pleased to see him.

He spent most of the evening in the corner beside me but did move around under the table to check out OH and to have a look at people passing by us but he didn't make a sound.

When the band took a break I slipped out for a cigi with the bass player and left Rodders with OH. When I came back in there was quite a group around our table and Rodders was up having a cuddle. This is all good for him as he is still nervous around people.

The owner of the club knows us well as we have been staying here for several years and he was one of the group fussing Rodders. As he left for the evening he had a quiet word to say that Rodders is so good we are not to worry and to take up our usual table in the restaurant from now on! How brilliant is that!!!!!

Our second adventure

Mid afternoon Rodders and I headed out to the car to drive to Southamptin to spend the night with OH. I put Rodders new bed pad in the car crate and he seemed to love it, not a peep out of him in the car. After the problem we had the other night I also took his old bed too, hopefully we won't need it!

When we got to Southampton I let him have a run around the garden and a piddle before we made our way to reception. Luckily they know us very well at The Concorde Club and it didn't matter that OH wasn't there yet, we were let straight in to our room.

I popped straight out the back door to bring in Rodders old bed and his bag with treats, food, bowls, toys & snuggle fleece in so that I could get him settled fairly quickly. We were in a different room this time, closer to the doors and although Rodders was quite good he did bark whenever someone came through them, I was really worried that this would be a problem overnight.

Rodders had his supper and ate most of it.

I gave Rodders another good run around the garden on his extendable lead which he loves and he pooped so I cleaned that up. He also tried to chase the rabbits! Once we came back in he was happy to settle on snuggle fleece while I sat on the floor beside him with a cuppa. We stayed there until OH rang to say he was five minutes away.

I slipped on Rodders lead and we walked out the back and round to the car park. Rodders sat nicely while we waited and once he heard OH he was off to find him, he was so excited to see him and danced his way back inside.

First night in a hotel

Once back from dinner I took Rodders in to the garden while OH brought in his car crate. It didn't quite fit where we wanted it to go in the bathroom but it did fit.

OH then took Rodders back in to the garden on his extendable lead, he seemed to love the freedom but so far he resolutely refused to have a piddle.

We came back inside and while I messed about on the computer my two favourite boys settled down on the floor, snuggled up together, at the end of the bed. I spoilt it apparently by going to check where they were!

At bedtime I took Rodders out for a piddle and brought him in and put him straight in his crate in the bathroom with some treats. I then walked away and shut the door. As OH and I settled down for the night there were a few little whimpers but nothing serious.

There was peace and quiet until 4.15 when Rodders gave a few whimpers and by the time he had barked once OH was out of bed, trouser on, and beside him. He slipped the extendable lead on him as he fumbled for his shoes, and popped him outside for a piddle.

Rather than try and get him back in his crate, and risk Rodders barking the hotel down, he settled back on the floor with him. OH grabbed a cushion for his head and a fleece to cover himself with and that is where they were when I peaked at 5am and when the alarm went off at 6.30.

How amazing is my OH to do that for Rodders and I? Is it any wonder that I love him!

A dinner out

OH and I used to eat out fairly regularly and I tried to stay in hotels with him whenever I could (if it was within reasonable commenting distance from work) so, although he is away working an awful lot, we always managed to spend a lot of time together. Over the last six weeks I have been housebound settling Rodders in and doing his basic training so OH has got home whenever he could, even if it is a flying visit on his way to his house.

Even our phone calls have had to be curtailed as I have had to hang up to deal with a Rodders crisis of some sort.

I can't tell you how much I have missed him!

So, tonight, we are staying in a hotel with Rodders and he is allowed to come with us for meals as long as we eat in the bar, rather than the restaurant. Never have I been more worried about going out for dinner! How would Rodders behave with all these strange people and different noises?

Well the answer to that is???? Brilliantly!!!!!!

OH walked him over to the restaurant on his lead while I ambled along with his fleece and my pockets full of treats. Rodders was a little hesitant walking in the door and along the corridor to the bar but we found a table quickly and I tried to settle him beside me on snuggle fleece. He wasn't having any of that as it was very noisy (lots of people had been enjoying Beajulois Nouveau since lunchtime and were still drinking!) so I gave up and brought him up on my knee. OH got our drinks and menu's and came to join us. He tried to take Rodders but he definitely wasn't going to settle with him so we swapped him over again. We ordered dinner and he started to drop off in my arms, this was a miracle in itself as he was attracting lots of attention and fuss from people.

I managed to eat my starter one handed with him beginning to drop off to sleep in my arms and by the time my main course arrived I had transferred him to the floor (carefully tied to the table) and he slept there on his snuggle fleece until we were ready to go back to our room.

A dash to Pets at Home

We swapped the car crate from my car to OH's (he has Sat Nav and I don't, yet!) and went off to the nearest Pets at Home.

We hard only just walked in the door when we spotted another puppy and Rodders wanted to play. I let him for a minute while OH was being bamboozled by the choice of extending leads! We ended up grabbing an assistant for help and came away with that and some more (very expensive) poop bags. Although my pockets are usually full of them I only has two with me, silly me :-(

As we paid Rodders for a treat from the assistant on the till. It was a bit big so we welt him carry it back to the car. Back at the hotel it was time for a quick wash and change for OH and I. I also put a snuggle fleece on the floor at the end of the bed so that Rodders had somewhere familiar. He was quite good while we were getting changed and mainly sat on that if he wasn't chasing socks!

Rodders first hotel room

Rodders had a good sniff about the hotel room and was happy that there were some smells that he recognised when he found OH's shoes (he has been here for a couple of nights already). I got out his water bowl and a couple of toys to try and keep him amused and I showed him how we get outside to the garden.

We got a call from Sue to let us know there was another dog staying and if we opened our door she would pop along with Olly so that they could meet. Rodders was very happy to have a friend and they had a good sniff and a quick play.

I rang OH to let him know we had arrived but that I had forgotten to bring the extending lead. He said he would be leaving work shortly and not to worry, we could sort it.

I gave Rodders his supper in a Kong and we had a run about the garden before OH arrived and I managed to track down the nearest Pets at Home. I did also have to stop him chewing the bedding and the bath mat but he was generally well behaved but with the odd bark!

When OH came in to the room Rodders barked and then realised who it was and wanted straight up for a snuggle.

More new things

Rodders was brilliant in the car as we headed to Southampton to the Concorde Club, This is a lovely little hotel that OH and I know well and, even better, they are happy to accept we behaved dogs. This was Rodders first visit and my fingers were firmly crossed that he would be a well behaved dog!

He walked nicely from the car in to reception and the Hotel Manager & Receptonist were expecting him. Sue came straight out to meet him and he played on the floor with her for ages and was very happy that she gave him a treat.

He then gave a little whine which I guessed meant he needed to go to the toilet. We nipped out the door, along the path, through the gate and in to the garden and, after a quick sniff around, he pooped. A few more minutes running about we went back and he had another play with Sue before she showed us to our room.
