A lively puppy but

Once we were back downstairs Rodders sat with me on the sofa for a little while before I went in to the kitchen to potter about and make some lunch. He wanted to go in the garden and was out there playing for a while.

When he came back in he stood at the kitchen door and threw up. The poor thing looked at me as if to say "what happened". He watched me clear up and spray stain and odour remover about and was then quite happy to go and play with his toys.

After chasing his toys for about half an hour he wanted to come up on the sofa with me and he slept for over an hour before standing up and retching. I grabbed him and put him back on the floor and he threw up again. Again he seemed confused by what had happened and wanted to stay close to me while I cleared up and sprayed with stain and odour remover.

As soon as I had cleared up he was off playing and wanted in the garden. Once back in he went straight in to the kitchen and barked for his lunch. I have given him a small amount of the id diet without kibble and will see how we do with that. If he is sick again I may call the vets a day early.

Back home

Once back home Rodders went upstairs to help Sue pack while I put the kettle on for a cuppa and the little horror piddled a little bit on the landing, this is only the second time he has done this. I think he knew what he had done as he came down the stairs and asked to go out in to the garden.

While he was out I nipped upstairs and cleared up and sprayed liberally with stain and odour remover, haven't had to use that much this week.

Sue left us to head off home and I started to update the blog while Rodders had a play and about half of his supper. He then wanted to come up on my knee for a little while but is now on his bed pad at my feet.

Rodders wanted to sleep

Rodders wanted to sleep and I wanted to keep him awake as OH was on his way. Our plan was to go out to eat this evening and I needed Rodders to be tired.

I managed to get him to play with me in the conservatory for a while. He then spotted another puppy staring at him through the glass of the conservatory, he didn't seem to understand that it was a reflection of himself. He looked away and then at the reflection again and the puppy was still watching him. He went towards the door until he was nose to nose with it and then asked to go out to see it. He tumbled out the door so fast the he fell off the step! He couldn't work out where the puppy had gone but had a sniff about before coming back in.

While I was talking to OH on the phone Rodders piddled on the floor in the lounge and got put straight out in the garden while I cleaned up and sprayed with stain and odour removal. He really wasn't happy and barked and barked to come back in. I ignored him until he quietened down. When he was allowed back in he rushed straight to the spot to make sure I had cleaned up properly, cheeky mutt!

We went upstairs so I could use the bathroom and I tried to get Rodders to come back downstairs by himself. We spent ten minutes with him prancing about at the top of the stairs, he would come down a step and then go back up and bark or cry. I eventually gave up and carried him down.

As OH arrived at the back gate we were back playing tug in the conservatory. He stopped tugging when he heard something and stood still for a second, then carried on until he heard another sound. Was that something outside?

Not such a good night

Att 11pm I woke Rodders up and took him in to the garden for a piddle. He wanted to come straight back in but came back when I said he couldn't go to bed without a piddle.

As we walked back across the patio I stupidly kicked a stone in to the gully and Rodders thought it was maybe time to play, so I repeated that it was bedtime and he toddled off in to the house and his bed. He sits there very nicely while I lock up, put out lights and get his treats. Usually as I lock the crate he is munching his way through what he has been left.

Once I was upstairs he did give out a couple of barks, possibly because I was walking about doing things.

At 3am this morning he was barking so I got up to let him out in the garden, he was desperate for a piddle but I also noticed that next doors security light was on. As he came back in Rodders ran to the stairs to grab a slipper but was swiftly collected and put back in his bed and told it was bedtime. He cried for about 5 minutes while I tossed and turned for an hour!

I didn't hear him again until 6.50am. I came down and let him out of his crate for a quick fuss before letting him in the garden. He was out there a while so I went to check where he was, he came trotting over and back in for a play in the conservatory.

He also led me to a piddle on the floor :-( Not sure when he did it as the edges were dry, but he knew that it shouldn't be there. He let me clean up without attacking the kitchen roll but he did show some interest in the stain and odour remover.

OH rang to see how we were, at which point Rodders wanted up for a snuggle, OH could hear the puppy squeaks down the phone. Rodders went and sat  on the rolled up carpet  when I put him down looking for mischief. He soon found it so I slipped his lead on, he isn't bothered by this at all, it is just something else to chew!

He was trying to bite my coat and me so earnt himself a few checks. When he tired of being told off he asked to go in the garden so I took his lead off as I let him out. When he came back in he picked it up and went and sat on the rolled up carpet waiting for me to put it back on. Obviously knew that he was still in mischief mode.

I have put the Clix noise and sounds CD back on this morning. We hadn't used it for about a week but his reaction to fireworks last night shows we need a bit more training. We had got up to volume 2 but that was bothering him this morning so I have turned it down to 1 and he is fine with it.

After another trip to the garden and a bit more playing he is now resting at my feet on snuggle fleece. Almost shower time I think.

A bit of a trying time

Rodders came back in from the garden with the wind in his tail and was running around like a lunatic and getting in to mischief and earning himself a few firm no's, he also got a very firm check when he was trying to bite me.

He then asked to come up and was wriggling for ages before settling down for a snooze when he and snuggle fleece got transferred to the floor.

I needed to use the bathroom so told him I was going upstairs and he could come if he wanted to. He didn't follow me up the stairs and was not at the bottom waiting for me which means he is up to mischief. Sure enough, there was a slipper missing from the bottom of the stairs and we had taken himself off to the rolled up carpet in the conservatory looking very smug! He did give it up when asked to and went back to curl up on snuggle fleece.

He has just woken up and started barking because there are fireworks going off again. I may have to distract him by going off to cook my dinner.

Rodders is active!

So since we came in from the garden Rodders has played on his own, played with me, chewed the rolled up carpet, chewed by dressing gown, eaten some breakfast, dragged snuggle fleece out of his bed, followed by the bed pad and asked to go back in the garden.

He has happily played with the stones at the end of the patio for 10 minutes, actually managing to get one out and then playing with it by batting it between his paws. He has barked to let the neighbours know he is awake, been back in the conservatory for a quick play and out again.

I thought we were having a good morning. And then he pooped in the kitchen getting himself thrown in the garden while I cleaned up and used the stain & odour remover. He hardly made a sound for five minutes and then barked to come back in. I made him wait a couple more minutes while I emptied the washing machine. He slunk back in and has now asked to come up and is sitting on my knee having the odd sneaky lick.

A disturbed night

At 10.20 last night it was time to go to bed, I was exhausted and Rodders had been asleep for a while on the floor.

I took him out in to the garden for a piddle and tried to stay out longer and see if he would have a poo. He wasn't having any of that and headed to the door. I put him in his bed with some treats and headed upstairs. Not a peep. After last night this was brilliant.

Then at 2.45 this morning he was barking as though he needed to go out. I came down and, without putting any lights on, said garden. We went outside and all he would do was bark on the patio. Hmm, wonder what is going on, has someone been trying to get in? He went in to the kitchen and was sniffing around. I called him and put him in his bed with a treat and went back upstairs.

Less than 15 minutes later he was barking again. I came down again after leaving him for 15 minutes and we went straight in to the garden, no lights & not a lot of talking. He tried to bark but I told him no, people are sleeping, and he stopped. He then sniffed around and had a poo. We came back in and he was put in his bed with a treat.

Silence as I got back in to bed. Well actually as I climbed on the bed in my dressing gown! Just as I was dozing off I could hear something out the front, a fox barking? That set Rodders off again but this was a different bark, more whingy, was he testing who was pack leader? I decided to stay where I was. He carried on for a little while so I shouted at him, not that it made a difference. After about 15 minutes he gave up and was quiet until about 6.30.

I rolled over and went back to sleep this morning and he seems to have given up and waited until he heard me move at 7am. When I came down and was giving him a fuss I spotted that he had piddled in the kitchen in the night, must have been the first time we came down as that was the only time he went in there. I pulled the baby gate too so that he couldn't get in there and we headed to the garden.

He had a piddle but wasn't interested in doing anything else so we came back in. He had a little play as I went in to the kitchen to put the kettle on for a cuppa and only had a minor whinge as I closed the baby gate behind me, more so when I used the kitchen roll!

Cuppa made and stain & odour removal sprayed I came out the kitchen and Rodders had a little play until I went upstairs to the bathroom. He came too and was a bit put out that the bedroom door had been pulled too, I will stop you getting my laundry young man!

Back downstairs I cleared up the stain and odour remover, Rodders sat and watched and didn't try to chase the kitchen roll. We went in to the conservatory for a little play and a fuss until the phone went. While I was talking to OH Rodders curled up beside me on snuggle fleece and went back to sleep! He is very subdued this morning & he had to be encouraged off snuggle fleece for a bit of a play when OH got cut off. He went straight back on snuggle fleece at the earliest opportunity though. More chatting with OH, filling me in on last night and people we know.

OH thinks I did the right thing in the night but has suggested that I check the back gate, just in case.

Sorting Dinner and the scruff bag out

When I came back downstairs Rodders was very happy to see me and gave me a real greeting before going back to play with OH.

I started to prepare dinner and Rodders was pottering between us. And so neither of us was watching him properly and he piddled on the floor of the lounge :-(

He got thrown in the garden again and barked a bit, but not as bad as last time. Wonder what the neighbours are thinking. We let him back in after 5 minutes, once I had cleared up and treated the area with stain and odour removal.

When he came back in he kept scratching so I got the brushes out to groom him. He managed to nip me while I was doing it and drew blood, this was a first. I had to stop and go and clean myself up so OH carried on. Rodders did look pretty by the time we had finished and so much softer.

By the time we had dinner he was ready to curl up on snuggle fleece and go to sleep. As we have moved around from the dining table to the sofa's he has followed us and he came upstairs with me when I went to the bathroom but stayed down here with me when OH went.

Twas a brief hiatus

Rodders ran about for a little while longer with me following him around. He got himself between the dresser and table and pooped behind a chair where I couldn't get to him quick enough :-(

I daren't put him in the garden because of the fireworks so he got shut in the kitchen behind the baby gate while I cleared up. From the noise he was making you would think that I had abandoned him. He was jumping up at the gate and throwing himself on the floor and nearly went bonkers when I was using the kitchen roll and when I went to the bin at the front door.

I sprayed the area liberally with stain & odour removal (maybe I should do the whole floor?), left it for a while and then mopped up. Rodders was still barking and whining so I went in to the kitchen to use the bin and ignored him until he quietened down.

I then let him out and the first thing he did was to go and sniff the area, not sure if he was checking I had cleared up properly or what. He then wanted to come straight up on my knee but I made him sit and wait, which set him off barking again!

Once he was quiet I let him up and he promptly fell asleep again. He is now back on snuggle fleece at my feet.

An unusual evening

Rodders rarely wakes up in the evening and has to be picked up and taken outside for a piddle (much to his disgust) every two or three hours, he will occasionally wander to his water bowl and back but that is about all the activity we usually see.

Not tonight!

He has been asleep on snuggle fleece since about 6pm and woke up about 15 minutes ago (damn, nearly missed the end of X Factor!). He wandered sleepily towards the front window so I asked if he wanted to go in the garden and walked towards the conservatory. He trotted happily behind me and we went in to the garden. Fireworks have been going off all evening, luckily for us there was a bit of a lull. Rodders had a piddle and then went to find his toy! I headed towards the door, it is flipping freezing out there and we don't know how long we will be firework free. Rodders came back in with a twig and flopped in the conservatory to chew it.

After X Factor I ran upstairs to the bathroom and he came to. When we came back down I put him on snuggle fleece and he wandered off to finish his supper and have a drink from his bowl. He is now happily trotting around playing and getting in to mischief.

And there was me hoping for an early night!

Trying times

I try really hard not to say no to Rodders as it just doesn't work and he seems to get wound up by it.

This afternoon he has tried to chew both rolled up rugs and has been told not to, he has been diverted away from them with a toy or a game of tug with me, he has been physically removed and put elsewhere.

When he wasn't chewing the rugs he was trying the curtains or jumping at the radiator to try and get the washing and barking at them when he couldn't reach.

I picked him up and let him look out the window and he just barked at people going by.

We have been up the stairs to the bathroom again and he just kept jumping up at me and biting if I tried to stop him.

And then I ran out of patience and used the no word.

And what does Rodders do? He goes and craps on the floor without even asking to go out :-(

As I spotted him I shouted Garden Now and he ran, knowing that he had dong wrong. I cleared up while he was out there and have sprayed liberally with stain & odour removal that needs wiping up.

We came in to the kitchen with some toys and a snuggle fleece and I shut the baby gate to contain him. Within 15 minutes he had curled up and gone to sleep.

When he is good he is very, very good. when he is bad he tries my patience to the limit.

Why oh why

We are sat here with the back door wide open, as it is a dull but warm day, so Rodders has access to the garden at all times.

He has been playing and dozing on snuggle fleece all morning.

So why, when I get up to grab something to eat does he follow me in to the kitchen, piddle on the floor, and then go and sit at the kitchen door crying?

I picked him up and put him in the garden and went back to the kitchen closing the baby gate behind me. As I put down kitchen roll to mop it up he came running in and was cross because he couldn't get in the kitchen. He barked and whined while I ate my cereal and ignored him. He gave up and went off to play. He had a look at the bears in the lounge but came away when asked, He went to chew the rolled up carpet and stopped when asked. He came back to the baby gate while I was clearing up and cried as he wasn't allowed in.

I have sprayed liberally with stain & odour removal and he is desperate to get back in there and has cried at the baby gate. He has gone off to play again but keeps chewing the rolled up carpet. He will stop when asked and can be diverted on to another toy.

Off to clear up the stain & odour removal, it should have done it's stuff by now!

Ugh

Rodders went in to his bed without a peep but I was wandering about upstairs moving things on radiators and he did have a bit of a whinge after about 10 minutes

So Rodders hasn't got the idea of the clock change at all :-( Does anyone have any idea how I stop him from waking at 5.30?

I know I could try just leaving him but when I do come down he is desperate to go out and it is 6 hours plus since his last piddle. He also makes enough noise to wake the neighbours.

He has been in the garden twice but has still piddled on the floor by the lounge door and so he got put out a 3rd time while I cleared up and sprayed liberally with the stain and odour stuff. The joys of open plan mean that I cannot keep him contained in the conservatory where he is close to the patio door - maybe I should have kept the doors :-( But he asks to go out a lot of the time so why do we have this in the morning?

I have put his breakfast down and he has eaten a little of it but doesn't yet seem interested in going back to it. I will lift it at 7am even if he hasn't eaten it.

He is currently playing in the conservatory with his toys.

Grrrr

Rodders was happy playing in the conservatory on his own after OH went and then was running up and down like a lunatic for a while.

He then started barking at the lounge door and I opened it, he was desperate to go up the stairs, does he think OH is hiding up there? I carried he up and put him on the landing and he went straight in to the bathroom for a play with his toilet roll inner, barking and chasing it. He was then happy to come back downstairs.

He went out again for a piddle and then had he is feet wiped and another play. He kept going to the lounge door and sniffing around so I asked if he wanted out again. Nope. He kept going back there and then I spotted that he had piddled by the door :-( Second day running, same spot.

I picked him up and put him in the kitchen while I cleared up. He wasn't happy and was quite vocal. I kept talking so that he could hear me but he still wouldn't quieten. I went in to the kitchen to use the bin and then came out again without talking to him and sat at the Dining Table talking to him. As soon as he was quiet I gave him a puppy treat. He would then whinge again and would not get another treat until he was quiet.

I then went and mopped up the stain and odour remover that had been sprayed quite liberally in the area of the piddle and went to use the bin again. The little horror escaped from the kitchen and got brought swiftly back. I stayed in the kitchen with him for a little while before letting him out.

Rodders prefers longer journeys

We left home at 11.11 and Rodders had settled down by 11.15.... Or had he? As I drove around the town he started up again, sounding quite distressed, then he quietened down. This is OK I thought and started to head towards St Albans to try out Pet Supermarket. As we got close to the M1 junction he started up again. We had been in the car 20 minutes and this was his 3rd bout :-(

I diverted off around the industrial estate and he quietened again, so back down Maylands Avenue and back out towards the motorway. As soon as we were moving and not doing stop start he settled. We got to Pet Supermarket and he seemed OK & possibly sleepy. Talked to him for a minute and then got him out the crate - don't want him thinking that the minute we stop he gets out. Had a good long look around the shop and bought a few bits, some more puppy treats, some pet odour and stain removal for carpets (wonder why we need that!) and some nylabones.

The journey home was much better, he settled quickly and didn't make a sound. Yippeeeee! I put him in the garden as soon as we got back and he wasn't impressed that I abandoned him while I dashed to the bathroom. Got back as quick as I could and made a fuss of him and then unpacked his nylabone. He seems to love it and has been playing with it for the last 10 minutes!

Right time to unload the washing machine and hang it out, it is another gorgeous day here :-)

Not such an easy night

Although Rodders was shattered he wasn't too impressed at being put in his bed in his crate and he whined and cried for about 10 minutes before settling down.

I came to at 7am to him crying so came down as soon as I had used the bathroom, he had a piddle in the crate overnight on the puppy pad but he had been in there for 8 hours, just over. He had also thrown the snuggle fleece out of his bed so he must have been awake a while

We went straight out in to the garden and he had a piddle and wanted to come back in. I made him stay out until he had poo'd as well. He was interested in the piddle he did on the patio last night so at the first opportunity I got I went out and mopped it up and sprayed liberally with the odour and stain removal - he now wants to sniff and drink that.

He has also done a couple of things this morning that he hasn't before, he took the toy in his crate out and in to the conservatory and he dragged his snuggle fleece out and all the way down the lounge to the other one.

I am determined to stop him biting me today and improve on the 4 piddles in the house. When he has got rough with me I have tried to divert his attention with a toy and if that hasn't worked I have taken myself off behind the baby gate to the kitchen. We have also been out to the garden every 20 minutes so far.

He stopped dead at the sound of the bin men so we went and out out our bin to get him used to the noises. He has since stopped and listened a couple of times and then carried on playing.

He has played happily on his own in the conservatory (mainly)while I typed this up with an interruption for the garden and bin men, but has earnt an Aaaaargh or two when chewing something he shouldn't.

Mornings :-(

The non smiley face is for me, I really don't do mornings!

Last night was amazing, I put him in his bed and went upstairs to 3 tiny little squeaks, not even real whinges. Good boy Rodders.

I woke this morning to him barking and a funny noise so I came down as quickly as I could. Rodders was very pleased to see me and we put the kettle on before going out for a piddle (looks like he also had one in the night on the puppy pad) and coming in to make my tea and start Rodders breakfast. As I turned round he had assumed the position so to speak and I grabbed him and put him out. Just made it to the patio but it was outside! Amazingly the little horror had held on to it since about 6pm last night!

After playing inside and out and running about like a lunatic he ate a hearty breakfast - in 3 sittings! Firstly he wolfed it down so quick he ran off to his snuggle fleece, belched and came back, then it was off to play before the final sitting.

He has decided that his toilet to piddle is now between the chairs and the cubes in the conservatory and this needs to be stopped. I put him behind the baby gate in the kitchen, with some of his toys,  while I sprayed the area liberally with stain and odour remover. He wasn't happy at being in the kitchen even though I was talking to him, but at this stage I was out of sight. I came back to sit on a dining chair so he could see me and when he was quiet I threw him a puppy treat which he was happy to chase for a second. Then he whinged again so I carried on talking to him. When he was quiet he got another puppy treat. Once he was settled happily playing without me I went in to the kitchen and closed the gate behind me. I then located all the puppy treats and he was happy to munch on those that he had missed. Success I thought as I sat on the floor watching him, and then I realised that piddle was soaking in to my dressing gown :-( Ah well, it washes and I have another one.

Dear Santa, please may I have that nice fleecy mud coloured one from Sainsbugs? I think I may need it!
